It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a … dis-ser-ta-tion!

Yes!!!

There is a new book on my bookshelf. It is big and black, with beautiful gold lettering. It joins another one that looks just like it.

'Not final document cartoon', making fun of the many revisions a manuscript gets.

This book and the work that went into creating it, has been a long time in the making. The cost was very high. It took years of sweat, tears, despair, eureka moments, flashes of genius, skill, persistence, team work, perseverance and sheer obstinacy, to create. But, it is done! Boom shakalaka, boom shakalaka, happy dance, happy dance, Boom shakalaka.

As graduate students and their familes can testify, I’m not exagerating. If anything, I’m understating what it takes to produce this particular type of book. It does not matter how fast or slow you do it, the process is not easy.

To PhD or not to PhD?

Here’s a picture of it, with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire hardcover on top for comparison.

The reality is that the number of people who would read this dissertation outside of academia, or within it for that matter, is a miniscule fraction of those who would read the Harry Potter books. I however pray that those who do, enjoy the experience and find the knowledge useful in their quest to make the world a better place.

Now, how about some music to celebrate? Then, it’s movie night, featuring—what else but The PhD Movie!
